BizQuest – Building Business Awareness Through Employee Engagement
BizQuest was a knowledge-driven quiz competition organised by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Vadodara Refinery as part of its Learning & Development initiatives.
The event was designed to bring employees together through a friendly intellectual competition while strengthening their awareness of business, the energy sector, and the organisation they represent.
Hosted at the Indian Oil Refinery in Vadodara, Gujarat, the quiz brought together employees from across departments to participate in a format that combined learning, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Rather than functioning as a traditional knowledge test, BizQuest was structured as an engaging experience where participants could apply their reasoning skills, learn about their industry, and interact with colleagues from across the refinery.
The Objective: Talent Discovery and Employee Engagement
Indian Oil Corporation is one of India's largest public sector energy companies, operating a vast network of refineries, pipelines, and fuel distribution systems that power the country’s economy.
The BizQuest quiz was organised by the Learning & Development Department of IOCL Vadodara Refinery with two key objectives:

Identify and encourage employees with strong business and industry awareness

Promote learning about the energy sector, global business trends, and Indian Oil’s initiatives

Strengthen internal engagement by bringing employees together in a collaborative setting
By combining competition with learning, the initiative encouraged employees to explore topics beyond their daily roles while developing a deeper appreciation for the organisation’s impact and the industry it operates in.
The competition began with a written preliminary round featuring over 100 participants from across the refinery.
Employees formed two-member teams, many of which included colleagues who had not previously worked together. This naturally turned the preliminary round into a networking opportunity, allowing employees from different departments to interact and collaborate.
The preliminary quiz featured 20 questions covering:

Insights about Indian Oil Corporation
The round tested not just factual knowledge but also awareness of the broader business and energy ecosystem.
Based on their performance, the top six teams qualified for the on-stage final.
Stage 2: Grand Finale – The Stage Quiz
The final stage of BizQuest brought the top six teams to the stage for a dynamic quiz competition consisting of five rounds.
The rounds combined traditional quiz formats with creative puzzle-based challenges.
Participants encountered:

Passing rounds where teams could capitalise on competitors’ misses

Buzzer rounds testing speed and accuracy
Some of the most engaging rounds were designed around word puzzles and lateral thinking.
The finale featured:

Anagram-based rounds where teams decoded key industry terms

Crossword-style puzzles that blended clues with business concepts
These formats encouraged participants to think through answers rather than simply recall memorised information, making the quiz both intellectually stimulating and enjoyable.
A Round Dedicated to Indian Oil
One of the most appreciated segments of the quiz focused specifically on Indian Oil Corporation and its initiatives.
Extensive research went into designing questions that highlighted the organisation’s history, innovation, and role in meeting India’s growing energy needs.
Through this round, participants gained deeper insight into:
